1-      Single Unit on Highway Air Brake Certification Course

This course has been designed to provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge on vehicles equipped with air brakes. During the theory portion of the course we will build, demonstrate, and test the components of a modern, single unit air brake system giving our students an interactive experience and clear understanding of how air brake systems work. Students will learn the purpose and function of the components, as well as, the safety measures built into the system and what to expect if any part of the system fails.

This interactive classroom portion, along with 4 hours of practical training, provides students with the information they will need to successfully prepare for ICBC's Air Brake Knowledge test. After successful completion of the practical assessment, students can go to an ICBC Driver Licensing Office to write the written test and have an Air Brake endorsement 15 added to their license.

Course Includes:
  • 7-8 hours of theory training with fully operation air board.
  • 4 hour practical training on trucks including pre-trip inspections and brake adjustments instruction.
  • After the practical training, a practical assessment is conducted o a one-on-one basis with the instructor / assessment officer.
  • After successful completion of a practical assessment, students will receive a form that must be taken to an ICBC Driver Services Office within 90 days.
  •   Upon successful completion of both the practical assessment and written test, students will have an air brake endorsement 15 placed on their drivers license.

3-      Fire Department Driving Instructor's Program - "Train the Trainer"

This program is designed to give "in house" instructors the basics behind coaching drivers through a training exercise to meet the NFPA Standards 1002, 1401, 1451 and 1500 and to meet the objectives of identifying, evaluating, and controlling the risks of operating fire department apparatus. It covers the need to do training through the various regulations that affect the fire service as well as important issues regarding the operation of heavier vehicles in the fire service.

This course does NOT certify students to be ICBC certified Driver Instructors in any way.

The entire course program covers 2 days, of which at the end, instructors will have the knowledge to carry on with a driver training program in their respective departments or areas. Through theory and hands on exercises, instructors will learn specific techniques to help them train “in house” drivers thoroughly and safely in the operation of fire department vehicles.
